Excalidraw drawings together

Draw on one Excalidraw drawing with other people at once, see each other's pointers and selections, and keep both sides of a clash.

A drawing made with the community Excalidraw plugin, in a shared folder, is live for everyone who has it open. A change in one vault appears in the others' open drawing within moments, merged shape by shape, so two people drawing at once both keep what they drew.

Two people on one Excalidraw drawing: their pointers and selections, a shape drawn, then a shape moved and another drawn at the same time, both kept.

What you see of each other

  • Pointers. Each person's pointer is drawn on the drawing with their name, in their colour.
  • Selections. The shapes someone has selected are outlined in their colour.
  • Their changes. Shapes someone draws, moves, restyles or writes in appear on your drawing within moments, without you saving or reopening it.
  • Who has it open. The faces in the drawing's header are the people who have it open.

When you both change the same shape

Changes to different shapes merge. When two people change the same shape at once, one change is kept on the shape. If the one that loses changed the shape's text, style, link or points, it is kept beside the shape too, grouped and labelled Kept by Nectenda with who made it and when. Keep whichever you want and delete the other.

When two people move or resize the same shape at the same moment, one move wins and the other is not kept.

Turning live updates off

To have drawings sync only when they are saved, a few seconds behind, turn off Live sync for Excalidraw drawings in Settings → Nectenda → Editing. Drawings are still merged safely when saved, but nobody is shown on a drawing while it is off.
