Roadmap

What Nectenda does today, what is being built, and what is being weighed. Nothing here is a commitment and the order changes.

There are no dates on this page on purpose. A date is a promise, and the only honest thing a two-person roadmap can promise is the order it is thinking in.

Real-time collaborative editing
Several people in the same note at once, with live cursors, name labels, selection tints and a count of who is present.
Offline editing that merges
Keep writing with no connection. Changes merge on reconnect rather than overwriting, and where two versions genuinely conflict both are kept.
Shared folders
Share any folder in your vault. Creates, renames and deletes propagate to everyone in it.
Attachments
Images and other binaries sync alongside the text, sealed the same way. Paid plans only; text sync is free on every plan.
End-to-end encryption
Notes, attachments, filenames and folder names are encrypted on your device. The server relays ciphertext it has no key for.
Key fingerprints you can compare
Every member has a fingerprint you can check against them off-server, the same idea as Signal safety numbers.
Organisations, invitations and seats
Invite people by email, manage who is in which folder, and see which invitations are outstanding.
Device management
See every device signed in to your account and sign any of them out remotely.
Sign in how you already do
Email code, passkeys including cross-device, or Google, Apple and Microsoft.
Desktop and Android
Both are tested. iOS should work — it is the same JavaScript — but it has not been tested on a device, so it is not claimed.

Buying a plan inside Obsidian
Plans are bought in the plugin rather than on this site, because the keys that encrypt a vault are derived on your device from a passphrase that never reaches us.

Considering

Weighed, not scheduled, and some of it may never be built. Several of these are things other tools already do.

A public feedback board
Somewhere to post and vote on what gets built next, run on our own servers rather than a third party.
Read-only membership
Harder than it sounds, and worth saying why: we cannot enforce read-only on the server, because the server cannot read the document to know what changed. The same property that keeps your notes private is the one that makes this expensive.
Canvas collaboration
Real-time editing for Canvas as well as Markdown notes.
Comments and edit history
Discussion beside a note, and a record of what changed when.
Single sign-on and roles
SAML or OIDC against your own identity provider, and finer control over who can do what.
Self-hosting
Running the server yourself, so the metadata stays yours too. Designed, deliberately after the hosted service rather than before it.

Something missing?

There is no public board yet, so requests go to a person. Say what you are trying to do rather than which feature you want — it is more useful, and it occasionally turns out there is already a way.
